Gimp 2.7.3 & G'MIC Updates
Well, I must say that I am overwhelmed by the amount of feedback that I received for the builds I have been providing. All I can say is that I hope you are enjoying the builds as much as I have in building them. Thanks to Liquidape, there has been a tremendous amount of interest in these builds at Graphicall. So, feel free to download from here or there, but note that this site will always have the latest builds from me. I also announce my builds on Gimpchat. So don't forget to check there as well.
You must already know by now that Gimp 2.8 release has been delayed by a month and so I am guessing that the release will be sometime in January of 2012. Well, no matter, I think that the features have more or less been frozen and now all we have are bug fixes and making the single-window-mode as foolproof as possible. So, here is a bugfix release with lot of minor changes that are mostly under the hood. I have updated the build to reflect the source as of August 6, 2011.
Here is a screenshot of the new build.
I received some feedback that for some folks, the installer deleted the path environmental variable as opposed to appending Gimp to the beginning of the path. I must say that it is possible that can happen if your PATH variable is more than 1024 characters long. To avoid this issue, I have now built the installer using NSIS build that allows for strings up to 8192 characters long. I hope your PATH variable is not that long. If it is, please first save the path in a text file before installing from my website.
Themes
I have been receiving a lot of requests to change the default theme for Gimp. Well, most of the common theme engines are included with this build (just like the one before). If you look in the bin directory you will see libaurora, libclearlooks etc. So, to change the themes, I think all you have to do is locate the appropriate themes from gtk-themes and dump them in the local .gimp-2.7/themes directory. The directory .gimp-2.7 is automatically created by the portable version at the default location where it is installed.
I used the Nodoka-Midnight theme for the screenshots. To use this theme, create a directory called Nodoka-Midnight in the .gimp-2.7/themes directory and drop the gtkrc from the theme in there. Then start Gimp and change the theme. Let me know if this does not work for you. Please keep in mind that the MS-Windows theme will crash Gimp if you try to use the text tool. So, please use one of the other GTK themes.
G'MIC 1.5.0.0
We saw another release of G'MIC which is now up to version 1.5.0.0. So I have updated that as well. However, the frequency of release precludes me from keeping up with it. Currently the beta version is at 1.5.0.1 and every release seems to have a new road to the next release a few months later. I will try to keep up but no promises.
Installation
Download the version that is appropriate for your OS - 64 bit for 64 bit Windows and 32 bit for 32 bit Windows. Once you do that, simply click on the executable that you downloaded and install like any other software. If you don't like it, use your control panel to uninstall. A word of caution - Please don't mix and match (Why would you want to??) especially if you are using my Gimp builds. The DLLs are the same and since the 64 bit DLLs will not work with the 32 bit one, you are likely to get an error and the application will quit. If you are missing DLLs, please drop me a line and let me know!
As usual, if you are inclined to leave me feedback or a comment...
